A Southern Gothic Page Turner
Wilmington Manor is the best novel of the ante-bellum and Civil War South that I have read. It is Gone with the Wind with equal weight given to the lives, thoughts and feelings of blacks as well as whites. The evils of slavery are graphically portrayed, although neither race is portrayed with a monopoly on good or evil. It is a page-turner, filled with sex and social mores, violence and even voodoo. If you like a good read, I highly recommend it.

Wonderful novel, you cannot put it down
I was not sure about this book when I purchased it but since I just completed it I am so glad I did buy it. This is the authors first novel and I hope it will not be his only one. It is well written, edited, suspenseful, realistic and just darn good reading. The life on a plantation in the south pre civil war is not glamorized or given a "hollywood" twist, it feels real both the good and the bad. The story is about two gay men who fall in love and survive the tragedy of the civil war. It is not a novel about sex, thank goodness, but about lives, love and survival.

For anyone with an interest in the Civil War and historical fiction, this is the way to go.
A very good, thoroughly enjoyable read. A page turner. Well researched and nicely developed. At the same time, it remains true to the time period. There are characters you'll adore. Others you'll hate and a few who are incredibly complex. The relationship between the two men is not 100% of the story. I love the balance the author brings to the story. For anyone with an interest in the Civil War and historical fiction, this is the way to go. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
